Sophie Schmitz

Sophie Schmitz is a physics major and math minor in the Kenyon class of 2024. She is from Madison, Wisconsin and attended Vel Phillips Memorial High School. After doing an astronomy research project through the NITARP program during her senior year, she found a love for both physics and research. Once starting Kenyon, she was drawn to research and has been working in Cosmo Lab since the second semester of her sophomore year. She is currently using a version of GABE with a Dirac-Born-Infeld -like model to investigate a dark matter candidate.

Outside of physics, Sophie is interested in Environmental Science. She is on the Kenyon Swim and Dive Team and is a member of Kenyon's Fiber Arts Club. She also plays the harp and the piano and loves to play board games.
